How to View Extracted LinkedIn Messages in the Salesforce Activity Timeline

By default, PipeLaunch is designed to follow the latest Salesforce best practices regarding data cleanliness. We understand that for many organizations, the Activity Timeline is a critical view, and some clients prefer not to have it "bloated" with every single LinkedIn interaction.

However, if your workflow requires these messages to be immediately visible in the Activity component, you can easily configure this by defining default values for the Task object.

Note: This guide only applies if your organization is configured to use the Task object to save extracted LinkedIn messages (default settings).

Prerequisites

  • You must have System Administrator permissions in Salesforce.
  • You must be using the Task object for PipeLaunch message saving.

Step 1: Expose the Task Subtype in Salesforce

First, you need to ensure the Task Subtype field is visible on your page layout. This field allows Salesforce to categorize the task correctly (e.g., as a Call, Email, or List).

  1. Log in to Salesforce and click the Gear Icon ( Setup).
  2. Click on the Object Manager tab.
  3. Search for and select Task.
  4. In the left sidebar, click Page Layouts.
  5. Select the relevant Page Layout used by your team (e.g., Task Layout).
  6. In the palette at the top, locate the Task Subtype field.
  7. Drag and drop the Task Subtype field into the Task Information section of the layout.
  8. Click Save.

Step 2: Configure PipeLaunch Settings

Once the field is available, you need to tell PipeLaunch to categorize LinkedIn messages as "Call" activities. This ensures they appear prominently in the Activity Timeline, as Salesforce prioritizes standard subtypes like "Call" and "Email" in the feed.

  1. Open the PipeLaunch Extension.
  2. Navigate to Org Settings > Field mapping.
  3. Locate the settings for Task creation/mapping.
  4. Add the Task Subtype field configuration.
  5. Set the value to Task or Call.
  6. Save your settings.

If you cannot see the field when you create a new task, please sync the org or login and logout

The Result

Going forward, any new LinkedIn message extracted by PipeLaunch will be saved with the Call subtype. These will now appear clearly in the Activity Timeline on your Lead or Contact records, allowing you to view the full message history without digging into related lists.
